Actors: Elizabeth Shue, Jerry O'Connell, Richard Dreyfuss, Ving Rhames, Kelly Brook, Adam Scott, Steven R. McQueen, Christopher Lloyd
Rating: 7 out of 10, this is a totally guilty pleasure movie, sort of an ode to the 70's disaster flicks, including the original version by the same name. What makes this interesting is the inclusion of an actual plot and some really good actors. Shue and Rhames must have taken this movie as a dare but they lend true class to what is really a B-movie with a big budget. There are lots of bikinis, gore, almost likable CGI piranhas and a great suprise ending. There are a lot of neat, somewhat subtle links to old movies. Dreyfuss, in a very small role, wears the same costume he wore in Jaws and sings the same little ditty he did with Robert Shaw in the same movie. Lloyd is in full "Doc" mode from Back to the Future. Kelly Brook is amazing to look at, just huge talents and she actually does okay with the small amount of acting required of her. O'Connell is just totally out of control as the Girls Gone Wild type, you can almost see him him smirking with some of the lines he has to deliver. The young lead in this the grandson of the Steve McQueen and he's pretty good. Sometimes tongue in cheek actually works for an entire movie and that's the case here, a lot of fun, a true guilty pleasure.
MVP: Brook as Danni the bikini model with her "large tracts of land"
