Hall Pass

Actors:  Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Jenna Fischer, Christina Applegate, Richard Jenkins, Alexandria Daddario, Nicky Whelan, Derek Waters
Rating:  6 out of 10, another one the Farrelly brothers' raunch fests that has some cough up your drink funny moments but is really uneven.  The Farrellys haven't made a great movie since There's Something About Mary and that streak is intact.  Its interesting that Wilson has two movies, the other being Midnight in Paris, come out in the same year which are so wildly different in tone and quality.  As with most Farrelly movies this one is aimed at junior high level male fantasies in which the female characters are window dressing as best and almost an after thought.  Waters is very funny in a small role as an insane DJ pursuing the good guys.  They do take an interesting concept and thoroughly skewer some stereotypes such as the neveau rich, mid life crisis, and self important barristas.  For some reason the Farrelly always want to shock you with some scenes that make you squirm but just aren't that funny.  Wilson's hot tub adventure is a good example in this movie.  Sometimes they hit the mark, such as when Sudeikis' date finally relieves her stomach distress, which I still guiltily laugh at every time, more so for Sudeikis' reaction than anything else.  Sudeikis once again impresses with his comic timing.  He and Wilson make an interesting team with Sudeiskis given the job of vocalizing what's in most guy's hidden thoughts - but again this is the Farrellys so no joke is too low for exploration.  A guilty pleasure comedy with the very impressive eye candy supplied by Whelan.
MVP:  Sudeikis has all of the great lines as Fred the totally inappropriate buddy
