Actors: Robert Downey, Jr., Gweneth Paltrow, Mickey Rourke, Don Cheadle, Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johannsen, Jon Favreau, Gary Shandling
Rating: 8 out of 10, solid follow up to the fantastic original although this one wastes some time having the lead character have a semi-meltdown. That distracts more than helps the plot move along. Rourke is a great villain although believing he is a super-smart physicist is probably the biggest stretch of his career. This movie is definitely Downey's and he shines in the second half. Rockwell is a little over the top as a competing defense contractor - never thought I'd see a contractor dance to start his presentation but this is science fiction. Johanssen is almost unrecognizable as she tries to establish some action credentials and she does this well. Favreau, who also directs, does a great job as the loyal servant. Cheadle, as always, does a fantastic job as the loyal but conflicted friend. I also really liked the romantic turn with Paltrow who was underused in the first movie. The special effects, which were such a strength of the first movie, do not disappoint. The only downer in this is the meltdown phase, not what we need from our superheroes.
MVP: Downey as Tony Stark/Ironman - proves he's a great actor even in popcorn fare such as this
