Actors: Paul Bettany, Lucas Black, Tyrese Gibson, Adrianne Palicki, Charles Dutton, Dennis Quaid, Kevin Durand, Willa Holland
Rating: 7 out of 10, excellent, apocalyptic tale of survival against supposedly the forces of good. The angels are the bad guys here although they're dressed up as possessed humans. This movie gets off to a great start introducing the characters and then the apocalypse in an understated way at an isolated diner/gas station in the desert with the scariest grandma in movie history. The cast is really solid with Quaid, Dutton, and Gibson playing small but important parts. Bettany shows up as the defrocked archangel Michael and leads the defense of Palicki's baby, supposedly the savior of the human race against God's wrath. The movie bogs down seriously in the middle after a couple of great battles. There's a final confrontation between Michael and his buddy Gabriel which kind of detracts from the story although I liked the ultimate redemption of Michael. In the background it turns out he was really doing God's will. Black and Palicki make a good couple with Black being a little too meek to really be the great protector he is destined to be. Its a great little romp with some really scary moments.
MVP: Bettany in his save the world mode again as Michael
