Actors: Matthew McConaughey, Marisa Tomei, Ryan Phillipe, Josh Lucas, Michael Pena, William Macy
Rating: 9 out of 10, really intelligent movie capturing the flavor of a book by one of my favorite authors. McConaughey finally shows some of the potential we've been hearing about for so long. He does an absolutely great job as the lead in a difficult role where he makes a defense lawyer likable. The rest of the cast is extremely talented and makes this movie a great watch. Phillipe, probably the least talented of the actors (not a dig against him but more a tribute to the rest of the cast) makes a superbly evil villain. Pena in a very small role is also remarkable. Macy, as always, steals every scene he's in with small gestures and mannerisms that makes him such fun to see. The plot moves right along with the defense lawyer trapped into defending a man he knows is guilty and who manipulates the system to achieve ultimate justice. I was prepared to dislike this movie because this is one of my favorite characters from literature but this movie totally charmed me.
MVP: McConaughey as Micky Haller bringing Connolly's favorite lawyer to life
